Bloomin’ Tuesday

Well it’s another Bloomin’ Tuesday! To see other great Bloomin’ Tuesday posts or to join in on the fun every week please visit Jean at Ms Green Thumb. I have alot to show you this week. My garden is just full of surprises.

Salvia ‘Black & Blue’ is a great addition to my garden. I couldn’t resist picking this little beauty up when I went to the garden center the other day with hubby. They just got a shipment of these and other annuals that are fall bloomers here. I wish it was a perennial, the butterflies are really loving this plant right now. I’ve seen this in other gardens, but I’ve never grown it before.

Lantana ‘Miss Huff’ is brightening up this area of the new garden bed at the moment. She is covered in buds and hopefully will be quite happy in her new home in my garden. Talk about a spot of sunshine on a cloudy day.

My least favorite Hydrangea ‘Forever & Ever Red’ has several flower buds opening. The bloom is pretty. It’s not red though, more of a deep pink. These have been my problem children this summer. I will be moving them come late September or early October to another area of my garden that gets afternoon shade. Hopefully that will help, but they are quite thirsty plants.

This area of my garden has done great this year despite the heat & drought. You can’t beat Catharanthus (Madagascar Periwinkle) for all summer long blooms. Some of these are in a container and some are planted in the ground. The ones in the container need a little more water than the others.

This is the first year my Lirope variegata has bloomed. I really like the metallic purple berry like flowers. This has a much better flower than the common Lirope. And the contrast between the blooms & the foliage is nice too.

This pink rose has been in my garden since the beginning. In fact it was here when I bought the house except it was in another area of the garden. I don’t know the name but it has fantastic full blossoms & a wonderful scent. The foliage has been clean this year too, no major problems with blackspot or mildew. The dry summer hasn’t bothered this rose in the least.

I couldn’t imagine my garden without Verbena bonariensis. This is a great wildlife attractor. The yellow finches, hummingbirds, bees & butterflies delight in these irridescent purple blooms.

Clematis ‘Sweet Autumn’ is really starting to showoff its’ snowflake shaped flowers. This is really a stunning plant when you have a mass of blooms. This is my neighbor’s view of it from her kitchen window. The fragrance when I took this picture was intoxicating.

Well I hope you enjoyed my blooms today. What’s blooming in your garden?

I enjoyed my walk with you through your garden. That pink rose is beautiful. I also have a pink rose that was in my yard from the previous owner and I don’t know the name either. I love the blooms on that Lirope variegata plant. Very pretty purple flowers. What part of the US are you in?

Annuals for fall blooming? What a great idea. About the only annual we see here is the pansy. But I suppose you have a longer fall than we do. The salvia is so pretty, no wonder the butterflies are attracted to it. I have a perennial salvia and am NOT happy with it. It blooms once then needs contant deadheading to get any more. Next year, it goes and an annual is going in. Such a glorious clematis, talk about brightening a spot! Miss Huff seems to be a popular variety of Lantana and rightfully so. It is really a ray of sunshine. Wonderful Bloomin’ Tuesday!

I didn’t know Clematis had a fragrance! We don’t grow them here, but I sure wish we could, especially after seeing the ‘Sweet Autumn’ variety you featured. It is gorgeous!

I also love the verbena bonarienis. A nice passalong plant. I have a ‘Mystic Spires’ salvia that looks like the black and Blue salvia. The Mystic is reputed to be perennial and is super great. The rose is lovely.

Your “black and blue” salvia looks a lot like the “Victoria Blue” I have all over the place. I plant it in the spring, but it really gets going about this time of year and blooms until frost. I love it!
Wish we could plant fall annuals here, but they wouldn’t have much time to bloom.
You have lots of lovely blooms for so late in the summer.

    Hi,
This is my 3rd time writing this. Keep hitting the wrong thing and it disappears. I loved the garden pictures. Really like that rose. Don’t you just love to take a “tour” in the morning and look at it all?

The sweet autumn clematis blooms look like they are glowing. I love that photo. Forever and Ever looks nice. People seem to be divided on it, some love it some are disappointed.

Love all the purples and blues! I think I might “need” a fall clematis. Yours is beautiful! To answer your question about my blog, I do the design myself. The header is always a pic of mine. I have several free sites for other things. I also have a blog just to practice on so all I have to do is copy and paste once I have it like I want it.More questions, e-mail me. Jean

Thank you Anne Fannie. I love Pink Roses, it's my favorite color for roses (yellow is a close second). I live in Virginia.

Thank you Cynthia. I never realize how much is blooming until I take photos each week. lol Sweet Autumn smells sweet like honey.

Your welcome Shibaguyz, I'm glad you enjoyed the blooms. 🙂 Thanks for visiting for Bloomin' Tues.

Thanks Beckie, I'm glad you enjoyed all my blooms this week. 🙂 Pansies are a great fall annual too. But Pentas, Salvias, & Snapdragons are also great choices. They all like cooler weather.

Aiyana-This is the only variety that I know for sure is fragrant, it's not a hybrid. I know it's hardy from zones 4a-9b. You may be too warm for it.

Thanks Tina. I planted Mystic Spires this year too. It's been a long blooming plant this season. I hope it comes back too. Most things will in my zone 7b garden. We'll see.

Your welcome Cindy. I'm glad you enjoyed my blooms this week. Sweet Autumn would be a great addition to your Clematis collection. 🙂

I'm glad you like the Black & Blue salvia Rose. It's a deeper shade of blue than Victoria. That's another great one though. Our season is quite long. We probably won't get our first hard frost until late October-early November.

Thanks Deborah. Look forward to seeing your annuals next week. Your parents garden was lovely.

Thanks Deb. The flowers are quite pretty especially when their is a mass of them. The fragrance is heavenly, like honey. 🙂

Lantana is a great addition to your wishlist Nancy. Thanks for stopping by today.

Thank you Linda. I left you a msg on Blotanical. I think Sweet Autumn would work in your Texas garden. It's hardy from zone 4-9b.

Thanks Sweetie. I'm glad you enjoyed all my blooms this week. The Rose & Clematis were popular. 🙂

Balisha-blogger was doing that to me earlier today too. 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed my blooms this week. I love walking thru the garden seeing what's new & observing. It's my favorite thing to do. 🙂

Thanks Marnie. I'm glad you enjoyed the blooms this week. Forever & Ever has pretty blossoms and hopefully next year it will do better. I'm just not that impressed. 🙂

I'm glad you like my rose shot Marmee. I was pleased with how the light hit it. 🙂 Thanks for visiting today.

Thank you Justin for stopping by. 🙂 Your blooms were nice too.

I'm glad you enjoyed my blooms DP. That rose would be nice in a bud vase, lol.

Thanks Kathleen. I'm in love with the Black & Blue Salvia. So striking with those dark bluish-black stems. Verbena bonariensis would be a great addition to your garden. It attracts all types of wildlife. I've even seen the Hummers buzzing around it at times. 🙂

Thanks Anna. I'm glad you enjoyed my blooms. Thanks for stopping by today. 🙂

Those periwinkle can't be beaten for blooming in any condition good or bad. Is that Lora Pedlum I see behind it by chance? I stopped by the big box store tonight to pick up a couple of things. It took everything in me to resist buying some of that black and blue salvia… seeing yours makes me wish I had given in… it is very pretty. Love your lantana (a perennial here) and the bloom on your liriope is interesting. I have hundreds of the common variety planted around Hoe & Shovel. Thanks for taking us around on another Tuesday tour of your pretty garden.

I haven’t had much luck with lantana but a friend of mine is giving me some of her Verbena bonariensis – she says it’s one of her garden’s best performers. Yours looks like it’s doing well too.

I did more research Carla and it probably is a perennial for me too. It says hardy zone 7-9 at one source & 4-10 at another. I'm zone 7 so we'll see. Thanks for visiting.

Thanks Susie, after I saw yours I was quite intriqued with the Black & Blue Salvia. It was stunning in person and the hummers have been buzzing it this week. 🙂

You should of given in Meems on. I know it would be a perennial for you. I found out after some more digging that it is hardy in my zone 7 garden. That is a Nandina behind it and Pygmy Dwarf Barberry beside it. Miss Huff Lantana is a perennial for us too. The only true perennial Lantana for us. 🙂
    The Periwinkles are real champs.

Thanks Laurie & Chris. Your Mom was crazy about Sweet Autumn Clematis too. 😉

You'll love the Verbena bonariensis Beth. It is so easy to grow. Thanks for visiting

They say Lantana is great for dry areas Dee. I am quite fond of the Black & Blue Salvia too. The flowers are such a vivid shade of blue. Thanks!
