I can’t believe I missed Bloomin’ Tuesday again. It was a very busy day here in my household, in and out all day long. Well here are some current blooms from my garden this week. Notice the rain droplets on some? I’m enjoying all this extra moisture this spring and so are the plants. 🙂
Ranunculus
I’ve never planted this particular summer bulb (or should I say corm). This spring I planted about 30 of these and only one small clump actually emerged.
Elfin Thyme
The teeny tiny blooms of Elfin Thyme are brightening up the newly planted Woodland Garden container. I moved it into this pot so I could appreciate this dainty groundcover.
Penstemon digitalis 'Smooth Beardtongue'
I’m very pleased with this native Penstemon that is blooming it’s heart out right now. Want a closer look?

Your wish is granted! Don’t you just love how the water droplets are clinging to the petals and stems? I’m in love with this beauty. Now I just found another plant to add to my list of collections along with Salvias & Hydrangeas.
Spirea 'Goldmound'
Now this is what I call a wake me up, in your face kind of plant! Bright pink blossoms combined with lime green foliage. What’s not to love about that color combo? 🙂 The bees love it too.

Crazy rain here too tonight, complete with thunder and lightning! Ah, spring. Never heard of that penstemon before, but I can see where it got the name – its blossoms are shaped so much like foxgloves! You’re right, that spirea is really something.
That makes for some good sleeping weather. 😉 I didn’t think about how similar it looked to Foxglove, I bet you are right about the name thing. Thanks Karen! 🙂

Hey Racquel !
This Spring has got to be one of the strangest yet .. so cold .. and just a few teaser days to make us think it is truly Spring leading to summer. Pretty plant pictures girl ! I love my Spirea .. I have a few different kinds and they are pretty accents in the garden for sure !
Hi Joy! 😉 It has been a strange year as far as weather goes thats for sure. I need to add a few more cultivars to my garden, it’s such a reliable accent every season in the garden. 🙂

Love the elfin thyme Racquel! Penstemon is on my “to buy” list. Seeing yours puts it at the top! You have some really great blooms!

I have that native penstemon too. I never knew it until Gail had always posted on it then I went to her house and actually saw it. I had been pulling mine. It’s a shame as it is so pretty now that it finally blooms! Do you know where it comes from??
Mine didn’t bloom last season when I got it but it was worth waiting a year cause it is glorious. It is native to the eastern states down through Florida. Here’s a link for more info: http://www.wildflower.org

There never seems to be enough time does there? We want to put in some Gold Mounds too but we have to make another bed first. Actually the one they will go in will be the second one that needs to be made. The list goes on and on.

That thyme is very cute. Can you cook with it or is it just for pretty? I’ve never tried Ranunculus either but I was looking at them in the garden center. Lovely blooms.
Thanks Marnie. I think it is just an ornamental variety. It’s the smallest Thyme so it fits in those tiny empty spaces great. The blooms on Ranunculus are great, my neighbor had them every year in her garden and they seemed to thrive on her neglect. Imagine that, lol. 😉

Beautiful! My friend gave me a bag full of ranunculus corms, I am waiting unti October to plant them. I have been eye balling that spirea here in town, looks like it might be coming to my home soon. GUESS WHAT? Mailing the walking Iris TODAY!!!! I really haven’t felt so good lately….today is a good indication that I am on the mend. After doing NO gardening for 5 days!!!
Thanks Darla. Good luck with your Ranunculus this fall. They are considered an annual in my zone 7b garden but my neighbor’s have been know to return for a few years depending on our winter. Just returned from the Post Office. Your package should arrive in 2 to 3 days, I do hope it survives, there is also a small piece of Autumn Joy Sedum and a small container of Yarrow in there…..if you don’t care for those, just pass them along.

The thyme is so beautiful I never knew that it could have blooms like that. I’d love to have it as a ground cover at my house!

Hi Gail, this week has gone quicker than expected. 🙂 I love your Wildflower Wednesday post, is this something you will be doing every Wed? You are definitely addicted to Penstemons. I will have to keep my eyes out for more natives at the Native Plant Sale in September. Yep that clay soil has been the downfall of many a plant in my garden even with the yearly ammendments. 😦

It has been a wet spring Racquel. (even for us). Then we shot straight to summer the last few days with highs in the low 90’s. It felt SO hot not being acclimated and I’m usually a heat lover! I enjoyed your random blooms. I haven’t had much luck with ranunculus ever. If you figure out a secret, please let us know!
That’s what happened to us a few weeks ago too. This is an odd spring so far. I hate the heat of summer so I wasn’t quite prepared for it that soon. Thanks Kathleen, I don’t know the secret yet of the Ranunculus. My neighbor neglects hers and they come back every spring. Imagine that, lol. 😉

Racquel, I have wondered how the rannuculus would do. Have often wanted to plant them, but was afraid they wouldn;t grow. The elfin thyme is gorgeous and I don’t blame you for putting it where you can enjoy it. I love the smooth bearded tongue. I have the red kind and always enjoy it but will have to find some like yours.
Our rain has finally let up some and we are having great gardening weather. Now just trying to find room for all the plants I bought and grew.

Hi Racquel, that yellow ranunculus sure is cheerful…too bad not all 30 came up for you 😦 That Goldmound spirea is also beautiful! I have a wegelia (?) that’s got that chartreuse variegated leaves and pink flowers…hmm, better get out there for a photo before she’s done blooming.
Considering I bought the corms on clearance last fall from Lowe’s I was happy to get at least one small clump that bloomed Lynn. Your Weigela sounds beautiful with the same coloring, so nice at this time of the year. 🙂
