Bloomin Tuesday

(From upper L-R across & down: Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull', Allium 'Pink Jewel', Catmint 'Walker's Low', Astilbe, Polemonium 'Heavenly Habit', Salvia 'Mystic Spires', Verbena Bonariensis, and Allium christophii)

The garden is really putting on a show this month with things constantly coming into bloom as others slowly fade away.  Some of my favorite perennials are blooming this week which include this unknown white Astilbe, Coreopsis ‘Jethro Tull’ and Verbena Bonariensis.  Salvia ‘Mystic Spires’ has just begun to push out a few spikes of flowers which will continue through the first hard frost in fall.  The Alliums are still looking good with ‘Pink Jewel’ finally starting to open up its buds into tiny pink stars and Christophii with its purple iridescent stars.  Catmint or Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ is two years old now and is has formed into a nice mound of blossoms which will look striking combined with companions ‘Glowing Peace’ Rose and Echinacea ‘Sundown’ which are shades of orange (not currently blooming yet). Last but not least is my new addition Polemonium ‘Heavenly Habit’, I just adore flowers in shades of blue don’t you?  The common name is Jacob’s Ladder in reference to the leaves being parallel on the stems like rungs of a ladder. 2. So that’s what astilbe is supposed to look like! How old is that plant? Come by and give me advice on mine when time allows, thanks!

That plant is about 10+ years I guess. I’ll be back by to give you some advice. 🙂

  4. Beautiful plants Racquel. I have a Polemonium and it is in limbo— moved it to a bit more sun. I hope that does the trick, because, yes I like blue flowers too!

Thanks Janet. Mine get some morning sun followed by afternoon shade and seem happy. 🙂

Allium went bye bye in my garden after the second year. I suspect the Vole ate well… Sigh….

    Pretty colors today!

Sorry to hear that Skeeter, I didn’t think anything messed with alliums. 😦

  8. Hi Racquel,
Your spring is definately ahead of ours. My verbena “on a stick” plants are just coming up. You have some lovely blooms there! I’m not sure if you’ve grown other catmints before, or if you know this already, but when the blooms fade, give it a bit of a haircut, and it will bloom again. I’m thinking I cut about a third off. It keeps it shaped nicely, too.

Hi Sue, I’ve never grown Catmint before so thanks for the advice! 🙂
