Painted Lady & Pretty Blooms

The butterfly is a flying flower,
The flower a tethered butterfly.
~Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun

This Painted Lady or Vanessa cardui was flittering around in my garden this past Sunday enjoying the Salvia ‘Mystic Spires’ as well as these pink Zinnias.  It was a warm day for the end of October and I was happy to capture this flying beauty from every angle possible since it was posing so prettily for me.  In addition while the weather was being so cooperative I did some cleanup in the veggie beds, trimmed back a few spent perennials and mowed the backyard.  I just love how great everything looks when the grass is freshly mowed.  It’s like the icing on the cake to me.  So did everyone get all their fall tasks done yet?  Not me, still alot to do, but I’m knocking it out alittle each day.  Hopefully come the end of this month I’ll be done.  Then I will enjoy hibernating indoors for a couple of months dreaming of a new season and all the potential it holds.  🙂

  1. Love this collage. That is something one of these days I simply must try. The lady is beautiful.

Thanks Tina. It’s super easy if you use
    It’s a free download too. 🙂

  2. Aren’t zinnias just great at attracting butterflies? My fall chores consist of planting seeds……

Yep their super attractors for the flying flowers. 🙂 Yep I have seeds left to plant still too. Waiting a bit longer though….

  3. Beautiful pictures.

    Thank you Rosemary! 🙂

  4. The poem says it all. I am so far behind in the garden this year that I will never catch up. Like you I am about to give up and put all my energy into planning for next year!

Yep that’s what I thought too EG. 🙂 Sorry to hear you are so far behind on your garden tasks.

  5. We have been enjoying the painted ladies as well. Plus–the monarchs paid us a visit a few weeks ago on their way south.
I still have a few fall things to do, but to be honest…I am looking forward to a couple of months off. Can’t believe I am saying that, but now that I am retired, there are so many things I need to do inside.. That way I will be all ready to be back outside when the weather warms! : )

Yep I think the Monarchs are long gone now, it’s been kind of chilly here in the mornings. Me too Linda, me too. I always get a big burst of energy every spring, but by August I’m tired of the garden. Shame on me huh? 😉

  6. What a feast for the eyes, Racquel! Looking at this, you would think it was the middle of summer. Your grandmother’s mums are so pretty, too.

Still so much to do in the garden, but finishing bulb planting and preparing a new bed ala lasagna gardening are the top two priorities. Anything else can wait till spring if it turns too cold.

Thanks Rose. Yep it was a warm October day and they were enjoying the blooms. 🙂 Sounds like you have your priorities in order, love the lasagna style beds. Can’t wait to see it!

  7. Super!

    Thanks Janet. 🙂

  8. Well we finally received some much needed rain so I haven’t been out in the yard. I have a few plants that need to be planted but it’s suppose to be freezing this weekend. So I doubt that will happen.

Glad to hear you finally received some rain Susie. We got some last night too. Yep it’s suppose to be cold here this weekend, but warm up next week.

  9. How did I miss so many posts?? These photos are TERRIFIC Raquel. I haven’t ever tried a collage either but this one inspires me to maybe give it a whirl too!

Ha that’s okay Kathleen. At least you got caught up quickly. 🙂 Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed my butterfly photos. Coming from you that’s a real compliment, your pics are always so gorgeous! You should try the program I use, it’s super easy to use.
