It’s that time of the week again when we share what’s blooming in our gardens. Some you have to capture quickly on film because their here and gone before you know it. Like the Dutch Irises and Peonies. It’s been a dry month so the Peony blossoms have had a chance to fully open without getting drenched by spring rains as in past years. I’m loving how bountiful my Clematis ‘Niobe’ is so I had to share just another shot with you all again. Ninebark was a new addition last fall and the blooms were a nice treat this month. The foliage was my main attraction to this ornamental shrub, but the flowers were an added bonus. So many beautiful blooms. Spring blooms are often short compared to the summer perennials. I get three weeks from my oldest clumps of Dutch iris, but the newer clumps last less than two weeks. The allium christophii are lasting longer than the purple sensation. But, the green orbs of the ps are still interesting and standing in the garden.
Do you cut your May Night Salvia down to the basal foliage as soon as it blooms? I finally added May Night this spring since everyone seems to rave about it.
(We leave for France on Thursday, so I don’t know if I’ll be reading blogs while away…if not…I’ll catch up on the return in late May.)
I’ve noticed the same thing with my Dutch Irises, the more established ones last longer. I’m loving Allium Christophii, it’s outstanding. Going to have to add more bulbs this fall. 🙂 Actually I do cut back the old blooms on May Night, but not to the basil foliage as you asked. It really loves this location better than any other spot I’ve planted it in the past. The drainage is good and it gets morning sun only. Have fun in France, look forward to hearing all about it when you get back.

I have that same coreopsis. Lately I have noticed it has lots of white looking fungus on it tho.
A couple of mine did that last season too Susie. I had four plants last year and only one came back this spring. 😦 I’ve never been too successful with keeping Coreopsis in my garden. Oh well.

Niobe is one of my favorite clematis too.
I agree about the peonies. It seems every year when they bloom we have a bad storm that ruins them. Mine won’t be opening for a couple more weeks. We will see how long they last.

Yep Niobe is the best, it’s a great rebloomer and blooms for a long time. This is the first year that the spring rains didn’t demolish my Peonies just as they opened. 🙂

Wonderful blooms again! The white peony with the red running thru it is my favorite, I think. I’ve never heard of Ninebark. It looks interesting! Great post! Jean
Thanks Jean, actually that Peony is a pale pink shade with the red running thru it. It’s my favorite Peony in the garden, so fragrant. 🙂 I love my new Ninebark shrub, the foliage turns a brilliant orange come fall.

Everything is just beautiful Racquel. Our peonies have teeny little buds just developing. You are miles ahead of us. More snow in the forecast for tonight too so I guess it’s good they aren’t blooming (I’d be out cutting them before the snow flopped them over).
Surprisingly, I do have a clematis about to bloom (Josephine). We’ll see what the snow does to her…
