Crocus
The first harbingers of spring have started blooming in my garden this weekend. Just in time for Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day! Crocus come in shades of white, yellow and purple. Every fall I try to plant these tiny corms in areas where they will be noticed. You have to squat down to enjoy their goblet-shaped blossoms. I’m still waiting for the deep purples ones that I planted out front this fall to bloom. The foliage is emerging so it will be a couple of weeks or so before they bloom.
Pansies
The fall pansies are still holding on, though a bit battered from the cold spell we had in January. They are starting to perk back up now and will continue to put out blooms through May. These are the little bits of color in my garden at the moment. Oh and I have one lonely Paperwhite bloom indoors. You got some good pics of the crocuses. Mine have started blooming too-yellow and lavender. About the exact same time as yours. I am trying to keep track of bloom times all year this year. Yeah right! Your pansies are looking great.

I love crocus. I noticed a few purple ones by a clump of snowdrops today as I was gardening preening. I forgot about GBBD so I’ll have to get my camera out there tomorrow. Nice photos. Methinks spring might eventually prevail.

I love your crocus. The only ones I have came with the house when we bought it almost 15 years ago, and they come up every spring, but later than yours. I will have to plant some other colors to go with them.
Thank you Les. I planted these in falls past and every year I try to remember to plant more, sometimes it happens. 😉 The only bulbs that were here when we bought our home 12 years ago were some Daffs and some Iris rhizomes.

I have to make notes to myself too Janet. 🙂 I remembered to plant more of these last fall in the front garden. No blooms from them yet though so I’ll have a staggered bloom cycle this year.

Nice that your crocus bloomed just in time. I love those little guys. These blooming in the winter is a reward. Imagine how lost they would be in the middle of the summer.
Thanks GWC! Perfect timing for sure. What would late winter and early spring be without these tiny treasure. They would be hidden away and forgotten in summer’s splendor.

I really need to get some of the earlier blooming bulbs up here. Not that they’d be blooming yet, but I’m sure they probably would next month.
I need to add more to my garden too Cinj, like the snowdrops and Hellebores to extend my season of bloom throughout the year. 🙂

I definitely need to add them next fall. I’ve been slow to get crocuses since we’ve had so many other “needs”. 😉 Yours look great!

I am going to sound just like everyone else, but I’ve got to get some crocus. I used to have some, but my man put a driveway over them..grrrr.
They are forgotten little bloomers I think. I need to add more this fall too. Ugh on the driveway. The same thing happened to my Balloon Flowers.

Love the crocus, just wish they didn’t bloom so close to the ground. ARe you going to plant your paperwhite outside?
It’s a good thing they bloom so early here or they would get lost amongst all the other foliage & flowers. Yeah they are almost done blooming and I’m going to plant the bulbs outside. (Paperwhites)

I love crocuses. They are so durable, they tolerate being mowed in our lawn all summer, and being frozen during the early spring frosts. Their faces are so cheery. I have been planting them in my lawn for years, and now I have dozens of them, all sizes and species. the earliest little guys are blooming now, and soon the larger cups will be showing their faces in the labyrinth.

I have some in my lawn too as well as some Grape Hyacinths. They tend to bloom before the lawn needs mowed which is timely. Thanks for stopping by today. I’m glad you did too! 😉

Hurray for you with your crocus and pansies! I miss my pansies and I am sure the deer miss them as well. I have not planted any since they ate them to the root two years ago! I need to invest in some crocus bulbs. I did not realize how I don’t really have many spring things in my life and I need more. Especially since Spring is my favorite time of year!
Thanks Skeeter! That is too funny about the deer missing your pansies too. 😉 They are some greedy creatures with their diet of pretty things. I know what you mean, this fall I want to add more early spring blooming bulbs & plants. Spring is my favorite season too. 🙂

Wow, I’m looking forward to my spring bulbs blooming, in maybe another 4-6 weeks! Our frost date is about May 15, btw. Sigh. I know. It’s my own fault for living in Michigan! ;-(
That’s the same frost zone for Ohio too where my family is from Monica. You can enjoy an extra month vicariously through my garden! 🙂

Those are exciting pictures. Spring comes early in blog-land. We will have a couple of months wait before we get crocus blooms…they are so great as one of the first flowers here. I am trying to build ours up in places we can appreciate the small flowers.
