The Night Sky

There is something haunting in the light of the moon; it has all the dispassionateness of a disembodied soul, and something of its inconceivable mystery. ~Joseph Conrad

I’ve never been a fan of the moon for the reasons pointed out in the poem. I like bright and clearly stated. The moon is moody. When I look at the sun, I know I’m going to be hot or happy. When you look at the moon, you have to ponder on it to know how you feel.

I love the moonlight and am glad it is nearly full now. When I was in Saudi it seemed the moon was RIGHT overhead because it was so big and bright all the time. Probably because of the desert air and no lights anywhere. Nice picture indeed.

I love looking at the moon at night, especially when it’s a full moon.

Just read yesterday’s post; I’ll have to try this recipe–I’m running out of ways to use yellow squash:)

Great shot! Since Saturn is my ruling planet dark and moody take on a different meaning for me … I also love thunderstorms!

    Awesome picture!!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. The perennial garden was lots of fun to plan and make. Now to sit back and watch the flowers grow and I hope lots of butterflies and hummingbirds and hummingbird moths and other creatures!!
I am going today to get some stepping stones.
    Take care

I love the moon; I find it quite magical. πŸ™‚ She and I have become quite good friends over the years. Great photo…very moody.

    Wonderful photo!
I’ve been a bit put-out at the moon the past few days, myself. We actually had clear night skies and for the first time in years I went into the countryside to watch the Perseid meteor shower. That ol’ moon lit up the sky so much I might as well have stayed in the city! (BTW, it’s not too late to see the Perseid meteor shower, for those who are interested).

Kind of an eerie moon. That’s a moon I want on a Halloween night.

I always go out and try and see the moon. I especially love a “Harvest Moon!” Even though we are in a neighborhood in the suburbs, we have a pretty good view.
Love the quote–how do you always find such appropriate ones? I always enjoy them!!

I agree with Marnie. It makes me think of Halloween. Although, like Nancy, I have become intimately acquainted with the moon over time. I do my best work by the light of it! πŸ™‚ Nice photo!

That is one eerie photo, but I like it. It would be great for Halloween.

I love your philosophy about gardening and share it with you. I too had rather be outside with my hands in the dirt than inside.

The recipe below looked wonderful, too. People are always trying to figure out what they can do with their abundance of zucchini.

They say the moon effects people's moods and that more violent crimes during a full moon than any other time Anna. Mysterious…

That's how the sky was when I went on a cruise last year Tina. The stars were so much brighter than at home. No street lights & bustling city to compete with all that beauty. Thanks! πŸ™‚

I enjoy the night sky too Rose & the moon is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy the squash recipe. πŸ™‚

Thanks Mom! That is very interesting about Saturn being your ruling planet, I don't know mine. I'm not crazy about thunderstorms though, scares my pets. πŸ™‚

Thank you Sara. I think you will get alot of enjoyment out of your new garden & so will the wildlife that it attracts. The stepping stones will be a nice addition.

Is the moon a she Nancy? I always wondered because of the old saying about the man in the moon. Hmmm… I'm glad you liked the picture, I can't take credit. My youngest son took this and was quite pleased with himself. πŸ™‚

Thank GBM! I will let my son know you enjoyed his photo. I've never seen the Perseid meteor showers before, how interesting.

It was kind of creepy & moody Marnie. A perfect Hallow's Eve moon, you're right. πŸ™‚

Thanks Linda, I find my quotes from quotegarden.com. They have quotes for all seasons & wonderful garden sayings as well. The moon was especially pretty last night and my son got this picture for me. The street lights gave it this nice blurry effect.

Thanks Kathleen. I will let my son know you enjoyed his first step into photography. πŸ™‚ I like the moon too, it is mysterious & calming.

I guess the moon speaks to everyone differently Amber. I like the mystery of its's glow at night. I'm glad you like my gardening philosophy. πŸ™‚ That is truly how I feel too. lol I hope you enjoy the squash recipe. It's nice to try new things, don't you think? Thanks for the visit!

Thank you for all your great comments on our perennial garden. And thank you for the advise. I have another question for you. Is there a book about perennial gardening that you would recommend me getting. Now I will need to know maintenance etc..
    Thank you!!

I love the picture.I always like sky pictures. I used to live in a busy little town, with lots of trees and overhead wires. When I moved here, I couldn’t believe how “big” the sky looked at night. We have no street lights or overhead anything.

What a great photograph!!! I actually enjoy the moonlight, especially what we always called full harvest moons in the fall when the glow from the moonlight filters through the window blinds late at night. Wonderful poem!

Your welcome Sara. πŸ™‚ I would just check out your local bookstore and find something that tells about maintaining of plants. Better Homes & Gardens has some great selections. You could also look online at Amazon.

You are lucky Balisha. It is hard to get a great picture of the sky with streetlights glaring in the photo. When we had our last hurricane come through here 4 years ago and lost power for 2 weeks, I couldn't believe how dark it could get and how bright the stars could be.

Thanks Paula. I find the moon an interesting subject to photograph. I can't take credit for this pic though, my teenage son got this great shot. πŸ™‚

Thanks MN, I’m glad you liked the photo. My 15 year old took the picture, I can’t take credit. πŸ™‚ It was a pretty sky last night and the moon was a aglow.

Thanks Cindy. A moon garden would be beautiful. You should plant it close by the house so you can really enjoy it.
